Justin Verlander and the Giants will take the mound in the series finale against Nick Lodolo and the Reds on Saturday.

The San Francisco Giants will take the field for the second game of this three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday afternoon at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. Both teams took a rest day on Friday after Opening Day on Thursday saw the Giants come back and beat the Reds 6-4 to open the series with a win. Relief pitcher Tyler Rogers picked up the win after pitching a scoreless bottom of the eighth. Ian Gibaut was credited with the loss after allowing four earned runs on three hits in two outs in the top of the ninth inning.

Cincinnati pulled out to a 3-0 lead after three RBIs from Jeimer Candelario. San Francisco came storming back, pulling it within one run after a Heliot Ramos homer and a Patrick Bailey RBI. Wilmer Flores won the game for San Francisco after hitting a three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to take the 6-3 lead. Cincinnati gathered one run back in the bottom of the inning but couldn’t do anything else.

Now in San Francisco, Justin Verlander will get the start in the series finalé. The right-hander All-Star went 2-0 in spring training with a 3.43 ERA and 19 strikeouts. The ace has spent 13 seasons in Detroit, seven seasons in Houston, and one in New York before finding his way to San Francisco in the 22nd season of his career.

Cincinnati will give the nod to Nick Lodolo to start the game on Saturday. The left-hander finished his spring training campaign with a 1-0 record and a 2.45 ERA with 16 strikeouts. That is much improved from his 4.76 ERA and 122 strikeouts in 115.1 innings last season. Lodolo will look to improve heading into 2025.
