The Angels’ bullpen faltered on Wednesday afternoon at St. Louis, allowing nine runs in the seventh and eighth innings of a 12-5 loss, preventing a series sweep. Mike Trout clubbed his first home run of the season in the loss and Logan O’Hoppe gave them a 5-3 lead with a seven-inning grand slam. Nolan Schanuel is hitting .292/.320/.417 with three RBI so far, while Trout and O’Hoppe lead the club with five RBI each. O’Hoppe has two homers.

After taking two of three on the road from the Kansas City Royals, Cleveland were swept at the San Diego Padres, taking a 5-2 loss on Wednesday to close the series. A four-run third inning off starter Ben Lively dug a hole the Guardians couldn’t dig out of. Steven Kwan is off to an 8-for-23 start at the plate with a home run and three RBI while Kyle Manzardo has two homers and seven RBI so far.

José Soriano makes his second start for Los Angeles in the home opener after shutting out the White Sox on two hits over seven innings on Saturday. The Guardians go with right-hander Gavin Williams, who took a no-decision after allowing two runs over five innings at Kansas City on Saturday.
