The Cleveland Guardians have won back-to-back series and five of their last six game heading into an interleague series against the Washington Nationals.

The early window in Monday’s MLB slate includes an interleague matchup, with the Cleveland Guardians (20-14) visiting the Washington Nationals (16-19) at Nationals Park. For the Nationals this is the second series in what started off as a successful six-game road trip, while the Nationals are returning home after a six game road trip of their own last week.

Over the weekend the Guardians were north of the border taking on the Toronto Blue Jays. They dropped the first game of that series but then won 5-3 on Saturday and 5-4 on Sunday. That Friday loss is their only loss in their last six games, after they took the final three games of a four-game series against the Minnesota Twins in an American League Central matchup last week.

The Nationals picked up a series win in similar fashion, on the road against the Cincinnati Reds over the weekend. They lost on Friday but then won 11-6 on Saturday and then 4-1 on Sunday.

This week’s series will get started with a pair of righties getting the start on Monday. Luis L. Ortiz will get the ball for the Guardians in this one, while Jake Irvin will throw for the Nationals. Ortiz is coming off of his best tart of the year – he threw 6.1 scoreless innings against the Twins last Wednesday.
