The Washington Nationals host the Cleveland Guardians for a double header to open this lone series of the season on Tuesday.

The Cleveland Guardians and Washington Nationals will officially get this series underway on Tuesday as part of a double header. The opener was originally scheduled for Monday but it was postponed after getting rained out. Game 1 will be rescheduled in the first game of this double header on Tuesday at 3:35 p.m. ET. Game 2 will be played at its regularly scheduled time at 7:30 p.m. The starters for the first game will be Luis Ortiz for Cleveland (2-3, 4.78 ERA) had and Jake Irvin (2-1, 4.01) for Washington. For the second game, Ben Lively (1-2, 3.72) will start for the Guardians and Brad Lord (1-3, 4.43 ERA) will go for the Nationals. Cleveland will be the -120 favorites at least for the second game of this double header tonight. This is the first and only series between these clubs this season.

Both teams are looking for their third win in a row today and Cleveland has won four of its last five. The Guardians won the rubber match of their series win against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday by a 5-4 final. Tanner Bibee left with leg cramps in the fifth inning but he still got the win only giving up two runs. Cleveland scored in the top of the ninth and it needed the extra insurance run as the Blue Jays nearly pulled off the comeback in the bottom of the inning. Gabriel Arias led the way on offense with three hits and two RBIs. Jose Ramirez also returned to the lineup after missing a couple of days with an ankle sprain.

The Nationals also won the last two games of their series to get the series victory against the Reds. Washington won the tie-breaker 4-1 on Sunday. Both teams scored in the second inning but Washington pulled ahead scoring three runs in the seventh to take the win. Luis Garcia Jr. hit a homer in the inning for his second RBI of the day. Garcia Jr. hit a sac fly in the second to score the Nationals first run. Starter MacKenzie Gore didn’t get the win but he had a solid day on the mound going five innings while giving up four hits and one run.
