Surprise Stadium is set to host the exciting weekend matchup between the Kansas City Royals and the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday in MLB spring training action. The Guardians are coming off of a 2024 MLB regular season campaign in which they were able to finish atop the AL Central division standings, courtesy of an overall record of 92-69 so far this season. The team’s mark also left Cleveland second overall in the American League table, behind only the New York Yankees who finished with an overall record of 94-68. The Guardians faced the Detroit Tigers in the ALDS, where the team from Ohio took the series in five games. The team then lost in five games to the Yankees who advanced to the World Series following game five at Progressive Field.

New York advanced directly into the ALDS to face the Kansas City Royals, with the Yankees taking a 3-1 series victory. New York won game one of the series 6-5 thanks to runs from Gleyber Torres (two), Aaron Judge, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Alex Verdugo (two).
Then, the Yankees fell in a 4-2 finish against KC in game two, followed by another narrow 3-2 victory in game three. This time, Juan Soto, Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Volpe all scored runs to take the one.
Finally, the team from New York sealed the series over the Royals in game four with a 3-1 victory at Kauffman Stadium. Torres, Judge and Verdugo all reached home base in the win away from home.
The Yankees ended up losing in five games to the Dodgers in the World Series following the series win over the Guardians in the ALCS.
