The Tigers have won 15 of their last 20 games after their series win against the Cardinals on Wednesday. It was a bullpen kind of day for that getaway game, with the Tigers rolling out six pitchers. But it was an effective one, only giving up five hits and one run, which didn’t come until the sixth inning. Spencer Torkelson had a phenomenal day at the plate, getting two hits and walking twice and he drove in the go-ahead run in the fourth inning. Jack Flaherty will start the opener against the Guardians, as the righty holds a 2-5 record with a 4.44 ERA in his second stint with the Tigers.

The Guardians were plagued by heavy rain in their last series against the Twins. The opener was called after the fourth inning, which resulted in a Cleveland loss. Then the Tuesday game was postponed until Sept. 20 due to inclement weather. The finale was played on Wednesday with Cleveland taking the win. The Guardians pitching was phenomenal, led by Gavin Williams who went six innings allowing just two hits and one run. The Twins scored first in the third inning, but they were limited to just three hits the entire night. Cleveland scored the go-ahead run with two in the sixth and Carlos Santana and Jose Ramirez both hit solo shots in the eighth and ninth respectively to add some insurance. Tanner Bibee will get the start for the Guardians tonight. The righty is 3-4 with a 4.06 ERA.
