The Detroit Tigers try to tie up this four-game set when they host the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night.

The Cleveland Guardians go for a 2-0 series lead on Friday against the Detroit Tigers after dominating in the opener. Cleveland won 7-0 in the first game of the season against its AL Central rival. The Guardians will now try to win their third game in a row tonight. This comes after they lost five in a row. Even with the win though, Cleveland is still five games behind Detroit for the division lead. The loss for Detroit ended a bid to win three games in a row but the Tigers are still the -130 favorites at home to tie this four-game series up tonight. The Tigers have been dangerous at home this season with a 17-6 record at Comerica Park.

Tanner Bibee was dominant in the first game these two played since a great ALDS last season. The righty improved to 4-4 on the season going seven scoreless innings while only giving up three hits and striking out eight. Detroit was held to just five hits the whole game. Carlos Santana had a two-run double in the fourth inning for all the run support the Guardians would need. The Guardians scored four more runs in the ninth to add more than enough cushion. Jack Flaherty didn’t pitch poorly at all but still got the loss with no run support going 6.2 innings while giving up three runs on three hits while striking out eight to fall to 2-6 in his second stint for Detroit.

The Tigers try to bounce back with Jackson Jobe as he tries to stay undefeated with a 4-0 record and a 4.12 ERA. Cleveland will counter with Slade Cecconi, who is looking for his first win of the season in just his second start of the year with a 0-1 record and a 5.40 ERA. This is the right-hander’s first year in Cleveland after pitching the first two seasons of his career in Arizona. Cecconi was part of a trade to the Diamondbacks for Josh Naylor.
