The Los Angeles Dodgers go for the sweep of the New York Yankees in Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday night.

There isn’t much that is certain in this world but if the World Series ends in four games, Freddie Freeman will be one of the easiest locks for MVP in World Series history. This 12th Fall Classic matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees was one of the most hyped matchups in recent memory. So far this series has been all Dodgers. It all stemmed from the unforgettable walk-off grand slam Freeman had in Game 1 after so many injuries this season and also dealing with the health of his family off the field. The grand slam completely shifted the momentum in this series after the Yankees were one out away from grabbing the opening win. It’s hard not to root for Freeman especially considering he didn’t have an extra-base hit in the NLDS and NLCS. Now he has hit four in the World Series and that streak continued with LA’s first baseman hitting his third homer of the series in Game 3 to help give the Dodgers the 4-2 win to take a commanding 3-0 lead.

The Dodgers’ supposed weakness coming into this series was their starting pitching. It has been anything but that through the first three games. Both teams had a great pitching duel in the opener but it is Los Angeles that has kept that rolling. Game 3 on Monday night was no exception as Walker Buehler looked like his old dominant self before he missed the entire 2023 season with Tommy John surgery. Buehler earned his first win of the playoffs going five shutout innings and only giving up two hits with five strikeouts. The New York bullpen largely stepped up after Clarke Schmidt‘s sluggish start but New York couldn’t get any offense rolling to make a comeback until the ninth inning when Alex Verdugo hit a two-run homer in the ninth. The Fall Classic came back to the Bronx for the first time since 2009 on Monday but it wasn’t the homecoming any Yankees fans expected.

The Dodgers didn’t need much offense to win by a 4-2 final in back-to-back games even with their superstar Shohei Ohtani going 0-3 after dislocating his shoulder in Game 2. They will likely need the offense they had in the NLCS against the Mets where they scored eight or more runs in each of their wins if the Dodgers are going to sweep the Yankees. This New York lineup is too good for its bats to go dormant like this. Regardless, New York will need a strong night from projected starter Luis Gil who is 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA this postseason. New York got the win in Game 4 of the NLCS in the last game he started with Gil going four innings against Cleveland while giving up two runs. Los Angeles has yet to announce its starter for the potential sweep. Can New York salvadge a game in this series and live to fight on another day?
