After the Astros took the opening game of a four-game series at Daikin Park on Thursday night, the Astros and Mariners square off in game two of the series in Houston on Friday night. 

Although the Astros took the first game in the series, the Mariners are off to a strong start this season as the current leaders in the AL West race. Seattle is 28-21 with a 2.5-game lead on Houston for first place in the division, and are 15-10 on the road with a +20 run differential. Houston, on the other hand, is above .500 itself at 26-24 with a 16-9 record at home. Despite having a worse record, the Astros have a better run differential than Seattle (+23). Seattle will send righty Emerson Hnacock to the mound against Astros right-hander Ryan Gusto on Friday.

Most recently, the Astros offense erupted for nine runs and 13 hits in a 9-2 victory over the Mariners in the series opener on Thursday night. Astros star Jose Altuve belted two homers and drove in a season-high four runs to lead Houston, who put the game away with a three-run sixth inning that included a two-run homer by Altuve. 

As for Seattle, the Mariners took an early 2-0 lead with runs in the first and second innings. Dylan Moore hit his eighth home run of the season in the second inning, while Rowdy Tellez singled in another run that gave the Mariners an early lead. However, starter George Kirby managed to go just three-plus innings allowing five earned runs in the loss. 

The Astros and Mariners square off once again at Daikin Park on Friday night.
