They still sit in first place in the NL Central, five and a half games up on the Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals. Friday, they will look to get back in the win column when they send Matthew Boyd to the mound. Boyd is 6-3 with a 2.79 ERA on the season. He has pitched well most of the season as he has given up two of fewer runs in 10 of his 14 starts.

Kirby is 1-3 with a 5.96 ERA on the season. He will be making just his sixth start of the season and is coming off three consecutive starts of giving up just two runs.

The Mariners lost his first three starts, but have won his last two. Last Saturday, they beat the Cleveland Guardians 4-3, as Kirby went five innings.

The Mariners come to Chicago looking to bounce back from a series loss at home to the Boston Red Sox. Despite those losses, they have won four of their last six games to move to 37-36 on the season.
