The Cubs look to avoid a second straight loss when they host the Mariners on Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field

The Chicago Cubs host the Seattle Mariners on Friday afternoon in the first game of a three-game series. The Cubs are at the tail end of a 10-game home stand that has seen them go 4-2 so far. They did have their game on Wednesday postponed due to rain, but they took three of four from the Pittsburgh Pirates and then split two games with the Milwaukee Brewers. The loss to the Brewers came on Thursday afternoon, as they got down 8-3 and then saw their comeback come up just short as they lost by one. The loss dropped them to 45-29 on the season. They still sit in first place in the NL Central, five and a half games up on the Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals. Friday, they will look to get back in the win column when they send Matthew Boyd to the mound. Boyd is 6-3 with a 2.79 ERA on the season. He has pitched well most of the season as he has given up two of fewer runs in 10 of his 14 starts.
