The Chicago Cubs try to even the series on Saturday afternoon hosting the Seattle Mariners.

The Chicago Cubs host the Seattle Mariners for Game 2 of this only series of the season against the Seattle Mariners on Saturday. After winning three in a row, the Cubs are trying to avoid losing three straight today. The Mariners jumped all over Chicago in the opener on Friday, winning 9-4. The Cubs are still in a good spot in the NL Central, but Milwaukee and St. Louis continue to gain ground, with both sitting 4.5 games back of first. The series-opening win was a nice bounce-back for the Mariners, who lost their last series against the Boston Red Sox. The good news for the Cubs is that they are -180 favorites to tie the series this afternoon.

Cal Raleigh is quietly having one of the best seasons for a catcher already. Raleigh was prolific in the opener on Friday, hitting two homers to help lead the offensive charge for Seattle. Raleigh hit his major-league-leading 28th and 29th homers of the season. In the process, Raleigh broke the great Johnny Bench’s record for home runs before the All-Star break. The Cubs were looking good early, leading 4-2 in the fifth inning after a homer from Reese McGuire. That was ironically in front of Sammy Sos,a who returned to a standing ovation at Wrigley Field for the first time in 21 years. Of course, Sosa and Mark McGwire lit up the majors in the late 90s with their historic home run chase. Sosa wouldn’t see a win in his return, though, as Seattle collected three more homers from the sixth inning on to run away with the game.

The Cubs will try to bounce back by starting Cade Horton, who is 3-1 with a 3.47 ERA. The Mariners will counter with Emerson Hancock, who is 3-2 with a 4.48 ERA.
