The Washington Nationals and Miami Marlins start their second series of the season on Friday in the nation’s capital.

The Washington Nationals are happy to be heading home when they host the Miami Marlins for a new series starting Friday night. The Nationals are trying to end a five-game losing streak tonight after getting swept by the New York Mets on the road. Washington has lost eight of its last 10 games and it has fallen eight games under .500. The good news for the Nationals is that they -130 favorites to win the opener against Miami tonight. The Marlins did get the best of the Nationals in the first series between these NL East foes, winning 2-1 back in April. Miami is trying to avoid losing four of its last five games going into this series.

The Nationals are coming off a close 4-3 loss against the Mets on Thursday to fall on the wrong side of the sweep. The good news is that Kodai Senga walked away with the win, going 5.2 innings while only giving up one hit and no runs to improve to 7-3. Unfortunately, Senga had to leave the game because of a hamstring strain. Jeff McNeil hit a three-run shot in the first that Washington never really recovered from. The Nationals nearly did pull off the comeback though, scoring three runs in the ninth, but it was too little, too late. They will try to bounce back tonight by starting Mitchell Parker, who is 4-6 with a 4.44 ERA.

The Marlins are coming off a series loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on the road, losing the rubber match on Wednesday, 5-2. The highlight of the game was Andrew McCutchen hitting a three-run homer in the fifth inning to put the win away. It was McCutchen’s 241st in 12 seasons with the Pirates, which put him ahead of the great Roberto Clemente for most in franchise history. Heriberto Hernández hit a homer in part of a two-run sixth inning for Miami, but that is all the team could muster on offense. Edward Cabrera will go for the Marlins tonight, sporting a 2-2 record with a 3.99 ERA.
