The struggling Detroit Tigers aim to end their homestand with a win against the visiting Miami Marlins on Wednesday.
After winning Monday’s series opener against the Miami Marlins by one run, the Detroit Tigers were shutout in last night’s 1-0 extra innings loss and Wednesday wrap up a seven-game homestand in search of their first series win in May as they host the Marlins in a getaway day matinee inside Comerica Park. The Marlins have lost eight of their last 11 games but are positioned to win back-to-back games for the first time since sweeping the Colorado Rockies in a three-game set earlier this month. The Tigers started the season 5-0 but have lost 21 of their last 37 and are in danger of falling below .500 for the first time this year.

Veteran right-hander Casey Mize (1-1, 3.58 ERA) will get the start for the Tigers today in search of his first win in four starts. Mize has been solid allowing two runs or less in five of his last six starts having worked his way back from Tommy John and back surgeries that sidelined him for 22 months. The 27-year-old has been on a pitch count through his first seven starts throwing 90 or pitches three times.
The Marlins will counter with southpaw Trevor Rogers (0-6, 6.57 ERA) who has been saddled with a loss in each of his last four starts. Rogers was roughed up for eight earned runs in 2.1 innings of work in a 20-4 loss at Oakland in early-May.
