The New York Mets go for back-to-back wins and the first two games of this series against the Miami Marlins on Tuesday.

The New York Mets go for the season-opening win against their NL East Rivals in the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. The Mets weren’t April Fool’s joking around in Game 1 on Monday when New York dominated 10-4. It was a good turn around for the Mets after losing their opening series against the Astros in Houston. New York has two games left in Miami before they head back to Queens for their home opener on Friday. The Mets will be the favorite to win the series tonight with a -165 line in their favor. The first game against the Marlins was exactly what this offense needed after only scoring five runs in three games in Houston. New York is still only hitting .136 as a team but all of that should change soon continuing this series in Miami and getting back home soon.

Miami was the first to score on Monday with second baseman Otto Lopez going yard. But New York scored 10 unanswered runs into the sixth inning. The offense was propelled by a grand slam by Pete Alonso in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach. The Mets had a total of four homers on the night. They had a great start as well by David Peterson who went six innings while only giving up two runs.

The Mets will go for the series win by starting Kodai Senga who only pitched 5.1 innings in 2024 battling a shoulder injury. In his last full season and his first with the Mets in 2023, Senga went 12-7 with a 2.98 ERA in 166.1 innings pitched. Hopefully we see him healthy and get another full season under his belt. The same can be said for the 2022 NL Cy Young award winner Sandy Alcantara who will get the start tonight. After missing all of 2024 after Tommy John surgery, Alcantara made his season debut last week against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the home opener going 4.2 innings only giving up two hits and two runs in an eventual 5-4 Marlins win.
