Things were looking like gravy for the Nationals who took a 3-0 lead into the eighth inning after Jake Irvin pitched seven scoreless innings. He would exit have 7.1 innings after giving up a run but things were still in control for Washington. Until they weren’t. Irvin would miss out on the win because Mark Vientos went on to hit a three-run triple to go ahead a run. Washington would tie the game in the ninth with an RBI single from Jose Tena. James Wood would go on to be the biggest hero hitting another RBI single with two outs to walk off the game and preserve the win.

The Nationals will go for the series win by starting Brad Lord. The righty is still looking for his first win of the season with a 0-2 record and a 4.73 ERA. Lord lost to the Colorado Rockies in his last start. The Rockies only have four wins all season but he gave up two runs in four innings in a game where the Nationals couldn’t buy any run support. New York will counter with Clay Holmes who is 2-1 with a 3.16 ERA. The righty is coming off a win in his last start only giving up four hits and one run in six innings of work against the St. Louis Cardinals.
