The New York Mets go for the weekend series win on Saturday against the Colorado Rockies.

The New York Mets look to not only win this series on Saturday night against the Colorado Rockies but also take a commanding 5-0 season series lead. The Mets swept the Rockies last week in Queens, New York and are coming off a 4-2 win in the opener in Denver, CO on Friday night. That win came in the ninth inning in a comeback victory for New York. The loss was the first for Colorado after getting its first series win and series sweep of the season against the Miami Marlins. New York maintained its lead in the NL East over the Philadelphia Phillies, holding a 2.5-game lead for first place. It’s going to be difficult for the Rockies to tie this series as the Mets are the -275 favorites to win the series tonight.

New York didn’t score until the seventh inning in the opener but it took the lead on a two-RBI double by Pete Alonso. The Rockies tied the game on a single by Mickey Moniak for his second RBI of the night to knot everything at 2-2. That set up Francisco Lindor for some heroics in the ninth inning. Lindor came into the top of the ninth as a pinch hitter on account of a broken toe. That didn’t stop him from bringing his usual greatness. Lindor hit the go-ahead two-run double in the ninth to effectively win the game. The Rockies went down quietly in the bottom of the ninth. The Mets were still able to win even though they were 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position.

The Mets will go for the series win on Saturday by starting Clay Holmes who is 6-3 with a 3.07 ERA. The Rockies will counter with Carson Palmquist who is still finding his footing after being called up last month. The lefty rookie is 0-4 so far with an 8.50 ERA.
