The Toronto Blue Jays host the Washington Nationals on Monday to start their only series of the season.

The Washington Nationals and Toronto Blue Jays start a three-game series on Monday night which will be the only series between these two the entire season. In another life, this would have been the all Canadian matchup. Toronto will be trying to get to a game over .500 after splitting a four-game set against its AL East rival, the Baltimore Orioles. The Nationals will try to get to .500 with a win tonight after losing their season-opening series against their NL East rival, the Philadelphia Phillies. Toronto will be the favorite at home tonight with a -175 line in their favor.

Washington avoid the season-opening sweep on Sunday after beating the Phillies 5-1 after losing the first two games. Josh Bell and Nathaniel Lowe both homered the series finale. Mitchell Parker pitched a gem to dominate the Phillies going 6.1 innings without giving up any runs. The Phillies left 10 runners in scoring position compared to just four for the Nats. Philadelphia didn’t score until the ninth inning off a fielder’s choice. Michael Soroka will get the series-opening start against the Blue Jays. The righty will be making his debut with the Nationals tonight after spending 2024 with the Chicago White Sox where he 0-10 with a 4.74 ERA in 79.2 innings pitched. Soroko will be going for his first win since 2023 when he pitched for Atlanta.

Toronto split their four-game series against the Orioles with a 3-1 win on Sunday. Chris Bassitt was dazzling in his start going six innings while only giving up one run and striking out seven. The Orioles scored first on a wild pitch but Toronto quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the first on a two-RBI single from George Springer. Tyler Heineman hit a homer in the seventh to give Toronto more insurance. Bowden Francis will go for Toronto tonight. The righty went 8-5 last season with a 3.30 ERA in 103.2 innings pitched.
