The division-leading Seattle Mariners look to restart their winning ways as their series against the visiting Washington Nationals continues on Wednesday.

After missing most of the first two months of the regular season, Seattle Mariners right-hander George Kirby makes his second start of the year on Wednesday night against the Washington Nationals. The Mariners aim for a third consecutive home win and their first winning streak in over a week. The Nationals will start veteran righty Trevor Williams (2-5, 6.39 ERA), who is winless in his last three starts, having allowed three or more earned runs in each of his last five outings. That includes five earned runs in Thursday’s loss against Atlanta, where he surrendered a pair of home runs in 3.2 innings of work.

With the second most home runs in Major League Baseball, Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh comes into Wednesday off a 2-for-5 night where he blasted a pair of solo home runs in Tuesday’s 9-1 home win over Washington. It marked his third multi-homer game of the season and second in May. Raleigh, in his fifth season in the Majors, is one home run shy of his fourth-consecutive 20-home run campaign after belting a career-high 34 with 100 RBIs last season. A third round selection by Seattle in the 2018 MLB Draft, Raleigh is eight hits away from 400 for his career.

The Nationals duo of shortstop CJ Abrams and left fielder James Wood have combined for 23 doubles, 22 home runs and 56 RBIs so far this season with both hitting over .283 through the first 54 games. Wood is hitting .326 this month and has at least one hit in eight of his last nine games with four multi-hit efforts in that span.

Since the start of the 2022 season, Seattle holds a narrow 6-5 lead head-to-head against Washington, but is tied 3-3 at home. Each of the last four games between these teams played in Seattle have been decided by three or more runs.
