CJ Abrams went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Nationals with a home run and two RBIs that wasn’t enough. Nathaniel Lowe also had a home run with two RBIs. New York’s Juan Soto went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs, a home run and two RBIs. Pete Alonso was the only other player on a team with a run batted in.

Jake Irvin will head to the mound to start this game for Washington. The right-hander is looking for his sixth win of the season, going into this start at 5-2. He has a 4.02 ERA and 50 strikeouts over 78.1 innings. Irvin allowed three earned runs on eight hits over five innings with three strikeouts in a 7-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs in his last start.

New York will start this second game of the series with David Peterson on the mound. The left-hander is 4-2 in his 2025 campaign with a 2.80 ERA and 65 strikeouts over 70.2 innings. Peterson lost 6-5 against the Los Angeles Dodgers in his last outing. He went seven innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in a quality start.
