The New York Mets go for their sixth straight win on Thursday afternoon when they host the rival Washington Nationals.

The New York Mets take on the division-rival Washington Nationals on Thursday afternoon. The Mets are looking to pick up their second straight sweep, as they took three straight from the Colorado Rockies last weekend. They took the first game of the series 5-4 on Tuesday and then shutout the Nationals 5-0 on Wednesday night. The Mets have now won five in a row and it has pushed their record to 44-24 on the season. They are in first place in the National League East, five games up on the Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets send Kodai Senga to the mound in the series finale on Thursday. Senga has been great for the Mets and comes into Thursday 6-3 with a 1.59 ERA. He has given up no runs in four of his starts this season and two or fewer runs in all but two. In his last outing he went six innings against the Rockies and gave up just one run on five hits. He didn’t get the win, but the Mets still won 4-2. It was his third straight start that the Mets won.

The Nationals are going to have to find a way to crack the code if they want any shot at snapping their four-game losing streak.

They had been playing better baseball, but have now lost seven of their last nine and it has dropped them to 30-37 on the season.

They currently sit in third place in the NL East, 13.5 games back of the Mets. They are just a game up on the Atlanta Braves for the third spot.

Thursday they will send Michael Soroka to the mound. He is 3-3 with a 4.86 ERA on the season. He was great in his last start as he gave up no runs in six innings against the Texas Rangers.
