The first game of the series on Monday was high-scoring. In a game that saw 24 total hits, the Nationals came out on top 10-6 in large part due to a four-run fourth inning. Left fielder James Wood went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs, including an RBI in that fourth inning and three more on the home run in the eighth.

Tuesday night’s game was much lower scoring. This time the teams combined for 14 hits – seven each – as the Padres claimed a 4-3 win. All seven runs were scored in the first six innings of that one. Once again the fourth inning was key. The Padres scored twice after falling down 3-0 early, then added one more run in each of the next two innings from there.

Lefty MacKenzie Gore will start this game for the Nationals. For the Padres, it will be righty Nick Pivetta getting the ball.
