After snapping losing skid, the Nationals continue their road trip as weekend series against the Reds begins in Cincy.

On the heels of a series split against the Cardinals, the Cincinnati Reds continue their seven-game home stand on Friday evening as they begin a three-game set with the visiting Washington Nationals in the first of two series between the clubs this season. The Nationals ended a three-game losing streak with a win on Thursday against the Phillies, which snapped a string of four consecutive road losses as Washington sends second-year southpaw Mitchell Parker (3-1, 2.65 ERA) to the mound looking to rebound from his worst start of the season where he allowed six earned runs in five innings of work in Sunday’s win against the Mets.

Cincinnati shortstop Elly De La Cruz leads the Reds with five home runs and 24 RBIs so far this season after an electric campaign in 2024 where he posted career highs in every category including a league leading 67 stolen bases. The 23-year-old native of the Dominican Republic had his 14-game hit streak snapped in Thursday’s home win over St. Louis that saw his batting average soar from .224 up to .281 in that two-week span. De La Cruz is quickly approaching some career milestones as he is now six runs scored shy of 200, 15 hits away from 300, and seven home runs away from 50 for his three-year career.

The Reds will start 25-year-old right hander Hunter Greene (3-2, 2.70 ERA) who has won three of his last four starts and was one out away from his first career complete game shutout against San Francisco last month. Greene has posted 150 or more strikeouts in each of his first three seasons in the majors and is on pace to surpass that mark yet again this season.

Washington has dominated this series of late winning seven of the last nine meetings having scored five or more runs in all seven of their wins dating back to August of 2024.
