Jack Flaherty kept the momentum rolling going seven shutout innings while only giving up two hits with six strikeouts. Flaherty looked right at home probably because he was. The righty is from Burbank, CA and while he’s been on some great St. Louis teams, this is one of the best performances of his career on the biggest stage. To put the start in even more context, it was the Dodgers first scoreless postseason start of seven or more innings since Clayton Kershaw did it in 2020. Flaherty is meshing tremendously with these team who started the season in Detroit.
The bullpen didn’t disappoint either limiting New York’s great offense to just one more hit. The bats were even more damaging for Los Angeles as they sent Mets starter Kodai Senga out in the second inning. The Dodgers were incredibly efficient scoring nine runs on nine hits. Mookie Betts put an exclamation mark on the game hitting a three-run double in the eighth inning. It was the largest margin of victory in a shutout in Dodgers’ playoff history.
The Mets need a bounce back pitching performance and they have just the guy to do it in Sean Manaea. The lefty had a tremendous start in his last game in the NLDS against Philadelphia which was a momentum changer in that series. The Phillies won 7-2 with Manae going seven strong innings giving up just three hits and one earned run. The Dodgers have not announced a starter yet for Game 2. The way these playoffs are going for LA, the decision is likely to be a strong one.
