Division leaders face off as the Yankees stroll into Motown to take on the Tigers in the series opener

After a sweep of the White Sox over the weekend, the Detroit Tigers continue their home stand on Monday night as they welcome the New York Yankees into Comerica Park for the first game in a three-game mid-week series. The Yankees sit atop the American League East Division after taking two of three games from the Pirates over the weekend as they hand the ball to veteran southpaw Carlos Rodon (1-1, 3.97 ERA) for his third start of the season while the Tigers will counter with 27-yearold Casey Mize (1-0, 0.00 ERA) who posted a dazzling season debut in Seattle last week striking out six batters and allowing just one hit over 5.2 innings.

Yankees center fielder Aaron Judge has had a monster start to the 2025 season hitting .329 with six home runs and 17 RBIs in just nine games. Judge, a six-time All-Star and reigning AL MVP, blasted three homer and drove in eight runs in a 20-9 win against Milwaukee and has tormented Detroit hitting .300 with nine home runs and 22 RBIs in 31 career games against the Tigers. The 32-year-old outfielder was held without a hit in Sunday’s series finale at Pittsburgh marking only the second game Judge has been held hitless this season.

With a team-leading .351 batting average, Tigers left fielder Riley Greene is tied for the team lead with three home runs and has posted five multi-hit games in his first nine outings this season. Greene had a breakout season last year posting career highs in runs, hits, doubles, triples, home runs, RBIs and slugging percentage.
