The Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals finish up their preseason play at Nationals Park on Monday afternoon
The Baltimore Orioles (13-14) and Washington Nationals (13-15) broke camp in Florida on Sunday and headed north to face each other in their final spring games on Monday at Nationals Park in Washington. The Orioles, coming off a 91-win season and second straight early playoff exit, will place shortstop Gunnar Henderson on the injured list to start the season. An All-Star in 2024 after an American League Rookie of the Year campaign the year before, Henderson hasn’t played since straining an intercostal muscle on Feb. 27. He hit .281/.364/.529 with 37 home runs and 92 RBI in 159 games last season.

Baltimore signed right-hander Kyle Gibson on Friday to bolster their rotation. Gibson returns to the O’s after winning 15 games in 33 starts for their 101-win squad in 2023. No. 2 starter Grayson Rodriguez is slated to open the season in the IL as he recovers from triceps soreness that shut him down for nearly two weeks, with right-hander Zach Eflin set to start on opening day.
The Nationals come off their second straight 71-91 season and haven’t finished with a winning record since winning the World Series in 2019. Washington enters its post-Patrick Corbin era after the left-hander went 47-77 with a 5.11 ERA in 170 starts after signing a backloaded six-year, $140 million contract in December 2018. Left-hander Mackenzie Gore gets the opening-day start for the Nats.
The Orioles tied the Atlanta Braves in their Florida finale on Sunday, with Dean Kremer fanning 10 batters in 5.1 innings. Washington got a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals to wrap up Grapefruit League play on Sunday. Right-hander Jake Irvin takes the ball for the Nats on Monday, opposite Baltimore lefty Cade Povich.
