The San Diego Padres will continue their three-game series in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on Tuesday night in the second game on the road against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. The Padres head into this series after taking Monday off with a 27-18 record overall. They are a half-game behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West, also sitting a half-game up on the San Francisco Giants. Surprisingly, over the weekend, they were swept in three games against the Seattle Mariners after winning two of three games against the Los Angeles Angels early last week.

The Blue Jays are just under the .500 mark and would surpass that mark with a sweep in this series. They are 22-24 overall and the No. 3 team in the AL East. They are a half game behind the Boston Red Sox and five games behind the divisional-leading New York Yankees. They lost two of three games against the Detroit Tigers over the weekend.

Dylan Cease will take the mound for San Diego in the middle game of this series. The right-hander is looking for his second win of the season to reach the .500 mark with a 1-2 record in 2025. He has a 4.60 ERA while totaling only 58 strikeouts in 47.0 innings. Cease has given up no more than two earned runs in any of his last five starts. He allowed two over 6.2 innings with 10 strikeouts, a season high, in his last start.

Toronto will start the game with Chris Bassitt on the mound as the next man up in the rotation. The right-hander is 3-2 in his 2025 campaign with a 3.16 ERA and 55 strikeouts over 51.1 innings. Bassitt gave up one earned run in his last start, a 3-1 win against the Tampa Bay Rays. He struck out six batters, the most in his last five starts.
