Reigning Cy Young winner Chris Sale leads the Braves against the Padres on Friday night in Atlanta.

With the visitors entering the series on a six-game losing streak as an East Coast road trip continues, the San Diego Padres visit the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park on Friday night. The Padres have the second-longest active losing streak in the majors at six games, with their last win coming last week against Los Angeles. San Diego is now in third place in the NL West at 27-21, trailing the Giants and Dodgers in the division race. Atlanta, on the other hand, has lost two games in a row to drop to 24-25 on the season with a 15-7 record at home. The Braves are in third place in the NL East behind the Phillies and Mets. The Padres will send righty Nick Pivetta to the mound against Braves ace and reigning Cy Young winner Chris Sale.

Most recently, the Padres dropped their sixth-straight game in a 7-6 loss to the Blue Jays in extra innings on Thursday. Nathan Lukes hit a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning to give Toronto the win. Gavin Sheets hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning to send the game into extra innings. Sheets also homered earlier in the game in a five-RBI performance. 

As for Atlanta, the Braves lost both games to the Nationals after falling to the Nats 8-7 in extra innings on Thursday night. Amed Rosario won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning with an RBI single for Washington. The Braves got two RBIs each from Matt Olson, Marcell Ozuna and Michael Harris II. Olson and Ozuna homered in the top of the first inning. 

The Braves and Padres begin a three-game series in Atlanta on Friday night.
