The San Francisco Giants host their NL West rivals in the San Diego Padres on Thursday afternoon in the finale of this four-game series. All three games have been incredibly close. The Padres won the first two games of the series both in the 10th inning by one run. The Giants came back on Wednesday beating the Padres by one run in a 6-5 final. The Padres have the chance to win this series outright today while the Giants will try to tie it. San Diego holds a commanding 4-1 season series lead though overall. Despite all of this, the Giants are the -120 favorites to tie the series Thursday. These two are close in the standings with the Padres just a game out of first place behind Los Angeles while the Giants are two games behind San Diego.

The Giants avoided losing three in a row on Wednesday to get back in the series. Heliot Ramos tied the game in the seventh inning on a two-run double. It was Jung Hoo Lee followed that up with a sac fly to complete the comeback victory as part of a three-run inning. The Padres were up 5-0 in the fifth inning but they couldn’t keep their momentum rolling. The Giants really started showing life when Matt Chapman cut the San Diego lead to two runs by hitting a two-run bomb in the sixth inning. This game was all about the bullpen as the starters gave up 10 of the 11 runs across the game.

San Francisco will try to get a stronger start in the finale and the Giants have just the man to do it. The probable pitcher today for San Francisco is Robbie Ray who is 7-1 with a 2.43 ERA. The Padres will counter with Dylan Cease who is trying to improve off a slow 1-4 start with a 4.66 ERA.
