Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson is off to an electric start to the 2025 campaign ranking in the top six in the league with his team-leading seven home runs and 21 RBIs through his first 24 games. Torkelson, the No. 1 overall selection in the 2020 MLB Draft, belted 31 home runs in his second season in the Majors in 2023, but saw his production fall off last year, hitting .219 and driving in only 37 runs in 92 games. He was then sent down to Triple-A Toledo to work on his mechanics.

On an 11-game hitting streak, Padres right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. leads the team hitting .344 this season and is tied for the third-most home runs in MLB with eight homers this season. The 26-year-old Dominican Republic native has hit 20 or more home runs in four of his first five seasons and is just eight hits shy of 600 for his young career.

Over the last eight meetings at Comerica Park, the series is tied 4-4, with the Padres holding a narrow 38-36 advantage in runs scored during that span.
