Preparation for Opening Day continues for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves on Thursday afternoon in spring training.

As spring training continues, National League rival Philadelphia Phillies will square off against the Atlanta Braves. The latest spring training game for the Phillies was played on Wednesday, resulting in a 9-7 loss to the New York Yankees. The Yankees jumped out to a 6-0 lead after scoring three runs in both the third and fourth innings. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Phillies were able to get on the board as Alec Bohm hit a single scoring Trea Turner and advancing Bryce Harper to third base. Max Kepler followed by grounding into a forced out, scoring Harper. To start the bottom of the seventh, Philadelphia was down 9-2, but Brandon Marsh connected with a pitch, sending it over the wall in center field, scoring himself and Bryson Stott. Other scoring plays in the game came from Robert Moore bringing Dante Nori home with a double; Leandro Pineda hitting a sacrifice fly to score Óscar Mercado and Luis Verdugo’s single scoring Moore. Taijuan Walker started for the Phillies pitching 3.2 innings, allowing nine hits, six runs, and giving up three home runs.

The Braves come into Thursday’s game following a 4-0 win against the Yankees on the game with 4-0 win against the Yankees which also took place on Wednesday. In the top of the sixth inning, Austin Riley hit a two-run homer to open the scoring. Luke Williams hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning, scoring Jarred Kelenic. Patrick Clohisy hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth to end the scoring for the Braves, but it was enough to pick up another spring training win. Pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach threw ten strikeouts and gave up two hits in six innings pitched.

The last time the Phillies and Braves met during spring training play took place last week and the game resulted in a high-scoring 16-9 win for Philadelphia. Tune in on Thursday as the National League East rivals battle it out in Florida.
