On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Pirates will take the field in Anaheim, California for the second game of a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels. The Pirates took the first game of the series on Tuesday with a 9-3 win on the road to rise to 9-15 on the season. Chase Shugart was credited with the win, coming in relief of Bailey Falter, who gave up three earned runs in four innings. Shugart pitched the next two scoreless innings with three strikeouts before handing it over to four other pitchers to finish the game.

Andrew McCutchen hit the only home run of the night on a three-run blast in the fourth inning. Isiah Kiner-Falefa had two RBIs on three hits in four at-bats in the win, as did Bryan Reynolds with two runs as well. Joey Bart and Ke’Bryan Hayes both had an RBI. Taylor Ward had the only home run for the Angels in the loss.

Andrew Heaney will get the start for Pittsburgh in the last game this season between these two teams. The left-hander is 1-1 this year with a 2.13 ERA and 22 strikeouts throughout 25.1 total innings pitched. He downed the Washington Nationals in his last start, pitching 7.1 scoreless innings and allowing five hits with four strikeouts.

Jack Kochanowicz will get the nod at home for Los Angeles in this series-closing game. The right-hander is 1-2 in his 2025 campaign with a 6.20 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 20.1 total innings. Kochanowicz allowed four earned runs in his last start on eight hits with just one strikeout over 4.2 innings. He has yet to pitch a game allowing less than two earned runs.
