The Tampa Bay Rays host the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday to start this three-game series for their only matchup of the season.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Tampa Bay Rays start a brand new series on Monday night. The first series of the season in their new spring training ballpark was a success for the Rays while the Pirates dropped their four-game set against the other team in Florida so look for them to bounce back. The Rays will be the favorite here at home though with a -185 line in their favor. The Pirates are trying to avoid losing three games in a row tonight.

The Rays had a close series against the Colorado Rockies to open their season. After a thrilling walk-off homer on Opening Day by rookie Kameron Misner, Tampa Bay lost by a run on Saturday. They bounced back nicely in the rubber match to win the series beating Colorado on Sunday 6-4. Tampa got out to a quick lead by Brandon Lowe belting a two-run homer in the bottom of the first. The Rays would never trail the entire game. A lot of that had to do with a great start by Taj Bradley who went six innings and gave up five hits and only two runs. Drew Rasmussen will get the start for Tampa tonight. The righty only made four starts last season but he was effective with a 2.83 ERA in 28.2 innings pitched in 2024. He will be looking for his first win since 2023 tonight.

After a one-run loss in Game 3 on Saturday in 12 innings, the Pirates lost their series against the Miami Marlins on Sunday in another close fight dropping 3-2. The Marlins won the series 3-1 after Griffin Conine hit a home run in the seventh to tie the game and then Derrick Hill scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth. This is the third walk-off loss the Pirates suffered in the series against Miami. Carmen Mlodzinski will get the start to try and help the Pirates bounce back. The righty went 5-5 with a 3.38 ERA in 50.2 innings pitched in 2024.
