Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal takes the mound against the struggling Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday as Interleague play continues.

Armed with the best record in Major League Baseball, the Detroit Tigers return home to Comerica Park on Wednesday night with the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner on the bump, as Tarik Skubal (7-2, 1.99 ERA) aims for a third straight victory when they take on the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second game of a three-game series. The Pirates have lost three in a row and are 16 games under .500 due in large part to their offense which has failed to score more than three runs eight times in their last 10 games and are 1-4 on their current seven-game road trip.

Tigers left fielder Riley Greene leads the team hitting .278 this season and is having a hot start to the summer, hitting .321 in June with two home runs and seven RBIs in his last four games. The 24-year-old Orlando, Florida native was the No. 5 overall selection in the 2019 MLB Draft and is enjoying a breakout season in 2025, as he is on pace for career highs in hits, doubles, home runs and RBIs. Greene is hitting .367 with a pair of homers in eight career games against the Pirates.

Pittsburgh will send veteran southpaw Andrew Heaney (3-5, 3.33 ERA) to the mound looking to slow a Tigers offense that has battered left handers this season hitting a league-best .272 and have won 15 of 20 games against left-handed starters this season.

The series is split 4-4 in the last eight games, with the Pirates winning three of their last six in Detroit.
