Expect another pitching duel in Game 2 on Saturday between the Texas Rangers and San Francisco Giants.

The Texas Rangers go for the series win on Saturday in Game 2 on Saturday in primetime on FOX. This is the only series of the season between these two teams that faced off in the in the 2010 World Series. We were treated with a pitcher’s duel by two aces in the opener with the Rangers prevailing 2-0. The win thwarted the Giants from winning three in a row but they are still only a half game back of the San Diego Padres for the NL West lead in a stacked division. The Giants will have a good chance to come back and tie this series today as they are the -120 favorites in Game 2.

This series opener spoiled us with a great pitching matchup between Nathan Eovaldi and Justin Verlander. It was Eovaldi that outlasted the Giants’ future hall-of-famer on Friday. Eovaldi went six scoreless innings only giving up three hits and striking out seven to earn the win. There were three relievers that took over every subseuent inning and only allowed one more hit for the Giants. Verlander was saddled with the loss even though he only gave up two runs in six innings on five hits. Wyatt Langford scored the first run of the game in the third on an RBI double and then Joc Pederson got some insurance by driving home a run on a single in the sixth.

It’s going to be difficult to live up to that pitching matchup but the Rangers will hold up their end of the bargain by starting Tyler Mahle on Saturday. The righty is 3-0 with a staggering 0.68 ERA. Mahle got a no decision in his last start despite going seven scoreless innings while only giving up two hits in a game Texas would ultimately lose 1-0 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Giants will counter with a strong option of their own in Robbie Ray who is also 3-0 with a 4.07 ERA.
