The Texas Rangers (3-1) bounced back from an opening-day loss to take three of four from the visiting Boston Red Sox to open the season. On Monday, the Rangers get their first road test when the visit the Cincinnati Reds (1-2) to open a three-game interleague series at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. The Reds come into the season with a new manager in Terry Francona, the three-time manager of the year recipient who led the Red Sox to World Series titles in 2004 and 2007. Bruce Bochy is back for his third season in the Texas dugout as the Rangers look to bounce back from a 78-84 finish as defending champions in 2024.

Jacob deGrom’s return to the mound yielded five innings of shutout work as the two-time Cy Young Award winner allowed only two hits and fanned six. He didn’t figure in the decision Sunday as Wyatt Langford and Adolis García belted solo home runs in the sixth to lift Texas to a 3-2 win over Boston. García opened the season with a 4-for-12 series with four extra-base hits, including a pair of homers, and four RBI.

Austin Wynns had a two-run homer and Matt McLain added a solo shot in the sixth inning, but Cincinnati dropped a 6-3 decision to the visiting San Francisco Giants on Sunday. Nick Martinez gave up four runs in six innings, allowing a pair of long balls in the loss. McLain homered twice in the three-game series while Christian Encarnacion-Strand opened 4-for-12.

Right-hander Brady Singer makes his Reds debut on Monday after going 9-13 with a 3.71 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 32 starts and 179.2 innings for the Kansas City Royals in 2024. Right-hander Kumar Rocker, Texas’ No. 3 overall pick in 2022, gets his first start of the season after making three starts last September, fanning 14 in 11.2 innings.
