The Miami Marlins host the Miami Marlins starting Friday for MLB’s rivalry weekend.

This geographic rivalry heats up starting on Friday night when the Miami Marlins host the Tampa Bay Rays. This rivalry may be more prominent in the NHL between these cities as the Rays have dominated series lately, holding a 24-4 advantage since 2019. The Rays are still trying to put their season into a higher gear this weekend as they are still five games back of first in the AL East. With their recent dominance over the Marlins, even on the road, Tampa Bay should be the clear favorite all series.

Tampa Bay won its last series against the Toronto Blue Jays after capitalizing in the rubber match, winning 8-3 on Thursday. Josh Lowe returned in a big way after not playing since opening day due to an oblique strain. Lowe hit his first homer of the season as one of his three hits. Brandon Lowe got in on the fun as well, hitting two homers of his own. Zack Littell was great on the mound too, going 7.1 innings while giving up three runs. Taj Bradley will get the start for this opener, coming in with a 3-2 record with a 4.24 ERA.

Miami is coming off a series loss against the Chicago Cubs but the Marlins avoided the sweep by winning 3-1 in the finale on Wednesday. Miami will come home today after a six-game road trip playing both Chicago clubs. Kyle Stowers hit a pair of homers and Ryan Weathers pitched five innings, only giving up two hits and a run. The start was Weathers’ first of the season after straining his left flexor muscle in spring training and he was rehabilitating in the minors. Max Meyer will go in the opener tonight with a 2-4 record and a 4.37 ERA.
