The Rays go for their fourth straight win on Saturday night when they take on the Padres

The Tampa Bay Rays continue their six-game road trip on Saturday when they battle the San Diego Padres. The Rays lost the first game of the trip to the Arizona Diamondbacks, but have since won their last three. Friday they came to San Diego and took the opener from the Padres 1-0. Shane Baez pitched seven shutout innings to get the win and Yandy Diaz hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning for the games only run. The win pushed the Rays record to 12-14 on the season and has them in fourth place in the AL East. They are a game back of the Toronto Blue Jays and a game up on the Baltimore Orioles. Saturday they will send Ryan Pepiot to the mound as they try and clinch the series. Pepiot comes into Saturday 1-3 with a 4.82 ERA. The Rays have lost his last two starts. He went six innings of three-run ball in his last start on Sunday, but the Rays didn’t score in a 4-0 loss to the New York Yankees.

The Padres will turn to Dylan Cease as they try and even the series. Cease has struggled in the early part of the season and comes into the game 1-1 with a 6.04 ERA.

Cease went five innings in his last start against the Houston Astros. He gave up six hits and two runs in a 3-2 win.

The loss on Friday was the second in a row for the Padres and they have now dropped five of their last seven games.

They now sit at 17-9 on the season, but are still in first in the crowded NL West. They lead the San Francisco Giants by a half a game and are a game up on the Los Angeles Dodgers.
