After a two home run performance, Alex Bregman and the Boston Red Sox look to take the series win in the finale against the Tampa Bay Rays.

A day after roughing up Ryan Pepiot for six earned runs in the first four innings, the Boston Red Sox return to George M. Steinbrenner Field on Wednesday night for the rubber match in the three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. Alex Bregman looks for an encore performance following his first career 5-for-5 outing on Tuesday where he hit a pair of home runs and collected 12 total bases. The Red Sox will send veteran southpaw Sean Newcomb (0-2, 4.97 ERA) to the mound in search of his first win of the season after failing to make it out of the fifth inning in any of his first three starts.

Bregman, in his first season with Boston, was a hot commodity in the offseason after nine seasons in Houston and has been red hot for Boston since signing a three-year deal with the Red Sox in February. The 31-year-old New Mexico native tops Boston with his .321 batting average, 25 hits, seven doubles, four home runs and 16 RBIs. Bregman is now five home runs shy of 200 for his career after posting five 20-home run campaigns while with the Astros, including each of the last three seasons.

The Rays will counter with right hander Zack Littell (0-3, 6.88 ERA) off his shortest outing of the season where he allowed seven earned runs in four innings of work. The Rays have not given the 29-year-old starter any run support this season, plating just four runs in Littell’s first three starts.

Tampa Bay has won four of the last six games in this series dating back to Sept. 19 with five of the six games being decided by two or more runs.
