Red Sox look to even the series as road trip continues against the division-leading Tigers

After a blowout victory in Monday’s series opener, the Detroit Tigers have won nine of their last 12 games and hold a 2.5-game lead in the American League Central Division as they return to Comerica Park on Tuesday night looking to win the series against the Boston Red Sox. The Tigers plated nine runs in the third inning of Monday’s win, their third straight against Boston and fourth in the last five meetings overall, as today they send Tyler Holton (2-2, 3.12 ERA) to the mound for his first start of the season having made 15 appearances this season as a reliever.

With a team-high 31 RBIs, Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers ranks 10th in the league in runs batted in and comes into Tuesday on a five-game hitting streak with three multi-hit games in that span. Devers, who has spent his entire nine-year MLB career with Boston, is three home runs shy of his ninth consecutive double-digit home runs season, having hit 30 or more three times in that span and eclipsing 100 RBIs in each of those seasons.

Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson leads the team in total bases, doubles, home runs and RBIs despite hitting just .238 at the plate.

The Red Sox will start right-hander Brayan Bello (2-0, 2.01 ERA) in his fifth outing of the year after missing most of the first month of the season after experiencing shoulder soreness during spring training. Bello won a career-high 14 games for Boston last season, marking the second straight season he posted 12 or more wins.

Boston is 6-3 in their last nine games at Detroit though the Tigers have won each of the last three holding the Red Sox to two runs or less in each of the three wins.
