The Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal takes the mound as the team aims to sweep the Boston Red Sox in the series finale on Wednesday.

After an electric extra innings walk-off win, the Detroit Tigers have now won 10 of their last 13 games as they head into Wednesday night’s series finale against the Boston Red Sox in search of their second series sweep of Ma. Reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal (4-2, 2.08 ERA) is on the bump for the Tigers. The Red Sox had won each of their two previous series, taking two of three games from Texas and Kansas City, but have yielded 24 runs in 20 innings of action in Motown and now trot out rookie right hander Hunter Dobbins (2-1, 2.78 ERA) in his fifth Major League start attempting to slow down the Tigers high powered offense.

28-year-old southpaw Tarik Skubal had a breakout season in 2024, going 18-4 with a 2.39 ERA while posting a career high 228 strikeouts during his Triple Crown winning season, earning his first All-Star appearance. Skubal, a ninth round selection by Detroit in the 2018 MLB Draft, had a losing record his first three seasons in the Majors but has seen his ERA drop every season since making his debut in 2020.

Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman, who was rumored to be an offseason target for Detroit, has flourished in his first season in Boston, hitting a team leading .304 this season having already belted 10 home runs and driven in 32 runs. Bregman won a pair of World Series titles in nine seasons with Houston before inking a three-year, $120 million deal with Boston in February.

Boston is 6-4 in its last 10 games at Detroit, though the Tigers have won each of the last four, holding the Red Sox to two runs or less in three of the four victories.
