The St. Louis Cardinals return home to open a 3-game series with their NL Central rivals, the Cincinnati Reds, on Friday night.

The St. Louis Cardinals (40-35) and Cincinnati Reds (39-36) find themselves in the postseason mix as the National League wild card race begins to take shape near the midpoint of the 2025 season. The teams open a three-game series Friday night at Busch Stadium in St. Louis separated by just one game. The Cardinals come off a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox while Cincinnati had its four-game winning streak snapped on Thursday afternoon by the Minnesota Twins.

St. Louis swept a doubleheader on Thursday, beating the White Sox in Chicago by scores of 5-4 and 8-6, with the second game going 10 innings. Yohel Pozo drove in the go-ahead run in the first game of the opener after Willson Contreras tied the game with a two-run home run. In the nightcap, Nolan Arenado hit his 350th career home run and then drove in the go-ahead tally in the top of the 10th before Lars Nootbaar’s homer added an insurance run. Second baseman Brendan Donovan comes into the series with a .317/.381/.443 slash line while Contreras leads the team with 10 homers and 50 RBI. Victor Scott II has 20 steals in 21 attempts.

The Reds fell into a 7-2 hole in the third inning of their 12-5 loss to the visiting Twins on Thursday. Gavin Lux provided a two-run homer in the third as they were unable to close out the series sweep. Elly De La Cruz is slashing .309/.424/.655 in June with five homers and 10 RBI while TJ Friedl has a .294/.384/.445 slash line on the season. De La Cruz tops the club with 16 home runs, 50 RBI and 21 stolen bases.

Right-hander Andre Pallante (4-3) opens the series for the Cardinals with a 4.83 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 14 starts and 76.1 innings. Cincinnati gives the ball to right-hander Brady Singer (7-4), who has a 4.34 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 14 starts and 74.2 innings.
