The Chicago Cubs look to even this series when they host the Cincinnati Reds for Game 2 on Saturday.

The Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs are in the midst of their second series against one another in the past week. The Cubs won the first series in Cincinnati 2-1 but the Reds came back in the opener on Friday, winning 6-2 to even this season series. The Cubs will host the Reds for Game 2 on Saturday afternoon with Cincinnati looking to win this series on the road. The loss for Chicago ended a four-game winning streak. The Cubs still are 7-3 in their last 10 games and lead the NL Central over St. Louis by 2.5 games. They will likely be the favorite to tie this series Saturday at home. The Reds are 6.5 games back of Chicago after the series opener.

Andrew Abbott was incredibly sharp on the mound for Cincy going seven shutout innings while only giving up one hit and striking out eight. The Cubs didn’t score until Abbott exited the game in the eighth. The win for Abbott was his third in a row to improve to 5-0 on the season. Abbott is becoming one of the Reds’ stand-out arms after debuting in 2023. The righty has an impressive 1.51 ERA and has yet to lose in the first two months of the season. The Cincinnati offense was fueled by homers from TJ Friedl, Tyler Stephenson, and Jake Fraley.

The Reds will follow up that great pitching performance by starting Nick Lodolo, who is 4-4 with a 3.39 ERA. The Cubs will counter and try to even up this series by starting Drew Pomeranz. Before signing with the Cubs, Pomeranz hadn’t pitched in the majors since 2021 with the San Diego Padres. This will be the veteran lefty’s first start of the season and he already has a 2-0 record without giving up a run in 12.2 innings pitched.
