The San Francisco Giants will start Justin Verlander on Wednesday in this season-series finale against the Cincinnati Reds.

The Cincinnati Reds and San Francisco Giants play their sixth and final game of the season against one another on Wednesday afternoon. The Giants won the first series to open the season in Cincinnati 2-1. The Reds have responded in a big way going into the Giants home turf winning the first two games of this series as they look for the sweep this afternoon. That would give the Reds the 4-2 season-series win. The Reds have earned back-to-back shutouts in this series but the Giants are favored to win the season finale with a -155 at home.

The Reds won the opener 2-0 on Monday on the arm of Hunter Greene who missed a complete game shutout by a third of an inning. Starter Nick Lodolo channeled that energy in Game 2 with the Reds winning 1-0 on Tuesday. The lefty went six innings without giving up a run and only surrendered three hits. Landen Roupp got the loss for the Giants even though he pitched a great game going six innings giving up seven hits but only one run. That run came on a fielder’s choice in the third inning when catcher Jose Trevino grounded out. The Giants’ bats need to bounce back and in a hurry as they were limited to only four hits on the day. It was the first time this season that the Reds won in back-to-back games this season.

They might just have a better chance to do that with the Reds starting Nick Martinez in the finale. The righty is still looking for his first win of the season with an 0-2 record with a 5.91 ERA but he only gave up three runs in his last appearance in a 3-2 loss against the Milwaukee Brewers. San Francisco will have a great chance of tying up this season series by starting Justin Verlander Wednesday. The future hall of famer is still looking for his first win with his new team but he doesn’t have any losses either. Verlander only went 2.1 innings in his last start giving up three runs in an eventual 9-8 walkoff win in 11 innings for the Seattle Mariners.
