Kyle Freeland will take the mound on Thursday for the Rockies in the series opener. Freeland is still searching for his first win of the season as he comes into Thursday 0-4 with a 5.93 ERA. He has given up at least five runs in three of his last four starts and is coming off an outing in which he gave up 10 hits and six runs in 4.1 innings.

The Giants will turn to veteran Justin Verlander as they try to keep the Rockies from winning a second straight game.

Verlander is also in search of his first win of the season, as he is 0-2 with a 4.99 ERA. The Giants have lost his last three starts despite him giving up just seven combined runs in those games.

In his last start he gave up just two runs in six innngs, but the Giants were shutout and they lost 2-0.

The Giants come into Thursday on a two-game losing streak and it has dropped them to 19-12 on the season. They are two games back of the Dodgers in the division standings.
