The Colorado Rockies try to avoid the series sweep and end a seven-game losing streak in this series finale against the New York Mets.

The New York Mets look for the series sweep of the Colorado Rockies on Sunday afternoon. The Rockies are trying to win double digit games before they lose 50 as they come into this series finale with a 9-49 record. By losing 8-2 on Saturday, the Rockies have now lost their 22nd consecutive series dating back to last September which is an MLB record. Colorado keeps making history as it became the first team since 1995 to enter June with fewer than 10 wins. That team was the 8-24 then Florida Marlins and that season was shortened by a strike that limited the ’95 season to 144 games. The Mets will be the huge -385 favorite to win this series at home today as the Rockies are 3-27 on the road through the first two months of the season.

The Rockies got off to a good start in Game 2 with a homer from Ezequiel Tovar on Saturday in the first inning but it was all downhill from there for Colorado. The Mets immediately scored four runs in the bottom of the first giving starter Kodai Senga all the run support he would need. Senga indeed settled down giving up just up just one more hit after the homer in 6.1 innings with seven strikeouts improving to 6-3. Juan Soto hit a homer in the fourth to put an exclamation mark on the game. It ended a homer drought for Soto with the superstar getting his first in more than three weeks.

This pitching matchup for the finale leans heavily in New York’s favor. The Mets will start Clay Holmes who is 5-3 with a 2.98 ERA. The Rockies will counter with Carson Palmquist who is 0-3 with a 8.78 ERA. These two will play again next weekend in Denver.
