Cleveland Guardians look to remain unbeaten at home as they open a 3-game series with the Kansas City Royals on Friday

The Cleveland Guardians (6-6) are back at the .500 mark after sweeping their first home series of the season on Thursday. The Guardians continue their six-game homestand on Friday when they host the Kansas City Royals (7-6) at Progressive Field in Cleveland. The Royals have won four of their last five as they finished off a 5-2 homestand with a series-clinching win over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday before embarking on a 10-game road trip. The Guardians opened the season by taking two of three at Kansas City from March 27-30.

Steven Kwan was a one-man wrecking crew in Cleveland’s 6-1 win over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday, going 4-for-5 with a homer and four RBI. Kyle Manzardo clubbed a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to give the Guardians a 2-1 lead and they never looked back as Gavin Williams struck out seven and allowed a run on three hits over five innings. José Ramírez is slashing .250/.364/.639 with four home runs while Manzardo also has four homers to go with a team-high 11 RBI.

The Royals closed out their series victory over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday, getting two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 3-2 victory. Jonathan India tied things up with an RBI single before Bobby Witt Jr.’s fly ball to center field was deep enough to score Drew Waters with the go-ahead run. Witt’s slash line is .280/.351/.460 so far, while Maikel Garcia has two home runs and Vinnie Pasquantino leads the team with 10 RBI.

Right-hander Tanner Bibee gets the ball for Cleveland on Friday. He is 1-1 with a 6.52 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in two starts and 9.2 innings. He got his lone win against the Royals on March 30. Left-hander Kris Bubic of Kansas City is 2-0 in two starts, allowing just one unearned run and striking out 16 in 12.2 innings.
