The Texas Rangers will look to get back in the win column after a loss to the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday.

Coming into this week’s series, the Texas Rangers (36-37) had won four games in a row and seven of their last eight. However, after a day off on Monday they got tripped up on Tuesday, losing 6-1 to the Kansas City Royals (35-38) in the first game of a three-game series at Globe Life Field. They’ll look to get revenge and start a new streak on Wednesday when the two teams meet again for the middle game of this series.

In that Royals win on Tuesday, catcher Salvador Perez was a driving force. Batting fifth in the lineup he went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs and a double. Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. also homered and hit a double.

Meanwhile the Royals’ pitching staff held the Rangers to just five hits and recorded 14 strikeouts. That’s against a Texas offense that had two separate 16-run games just last week.

The Rangers’ pitching staff has been good too. Prior to allowing six runs on Tuesday they’d allowed more than five runs just once in their last 13 games. Entering play on Wednesday the Rangers have a team ERA of 3.15, which leads the American League and is second in all of baseball behind only the New York Mets. Their staff batting average against is .223, which is the third-best in the game.
