AL Central foes face off as the Royals continue their four-game weekend series in Motown against the division-leading Tigers.

Off a dominant 6-1 home win in Thursday’s series opener, the American Central Division leading Detroit Tigers turn 22-year-old right-hander Jackson Jobe (1-0, 3.00 ERA) for his fourth big league start on Friday night against a Kansas City Royals lineup that has struggled to plate runs over the last week and a half. The Royals have lost six of their last seven games and have scored more than three runs just once in their last 10 outings as they send southpaw Cole Ragans (1-0, 2.28 ERA) to the mound in search of his second win in as many starts and his third straight win against the Tigers after collecting a pair of wins against Detroit last season.

Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler leads Detroit with his .306 batting average having collected a hit in six of his last eight games. In his second big league season, Dingler has hit a pair of home runs with nine RBIs in his first 14 games having already surpassed his hit total from his rookie year in 2024. A second-round selection in the 2020 MLB Draft, Dingler made his debut with the Tigers in late July of 2024 hitting his first career home run against San Francisco 13 days after being called up from Triple-A Toledo.

Following a breakout season where he won a Gold Glove, won a batting title, and his first career All-Star appearance, Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. comes into this game on a 10-game hit streak and has collected at least one hit in 19 of his first 20 games this season.

Detroit has won four straight games against Kansas City and has won five of the last six meetings overall but are 4-4 in the last eight games played inside Comerica Park.
