The Detroit Tigers go for a commanding 3-0 lead in this four-game series against their AL Central rival the Kansas City Royals on Saturday.

The Detroit Tigers have won the first two games of this series comfortably. Detroit won 6-1 on Thursday with Riley Greene getting out of a slump in a big way collecting three hits and driving in two runs. The Tigers followed that up with a 7-3 win on Friday night. Detroit will go for its third win in a row after dropping back-to-back games in its last series to lose it to the Milwaukee Brewers. The Kansas City Royals are just 2-9 on the road this season and therefore the Tigers will be the -130 favorites at home this afternoon. The Royals are trying to end a five-game losing streak and get their first win of this series.

The Tigers won on Friday on the right shoulder of rookie Jackson Jobe. He is now 2-0 on the season with a 2.70 ERA after going five strong innings against the Royals only giving up five hits and one run while striking out five. Kansas City scored the first run of the game but the rookie settled down the rest of the way. The Royals didn’t score again until the ninth inning when the game was well out of hand. Detroit got most of the offense it needed from Tomás Nido and Andy Ibáñez who both hit solo shots.

Casey Mize will try to keep up this strong pitching trend for the Tigers in this series. The righty is 2-1 with a 2.60 ERA in three starts. Mize got stung with his first loss of the season in his last outing against the Minnesota Twins where he went 5.2 innings giving up seven hits and four runs. The Royals will try to bounce back by starting righty Seth Lugo. He is 1-2 on the season with a 3.86 ERA. Lugo got the loss in his last start against the New York Yankees where he gave up four runs in 6.2 innings off seven hits. We should expect a great pitcher’s duel in the penultimate game of this series.
