The Mariners’ hot bats go for a series sweep in a getaway day matinee at Oakland. Seattle is looking for its first series sweep of the year.
Outscoring their hosts by a 17-2 count over the first two games of this series, the Mariners head into today’s series finale against the Athletics looking for their first series sweep of the season. Mariners’ right fielder Jesse Winkler has hit home runs in back-to-back days to spur an offense that before this series had only scored more than three runs just twice in the last seven games.

Robbie Ray (6-6, 4.25 ERA) will get the start for the Mariners, looking for his third win in his last four starts. Earlier this month, Ray picked up wins against the Angels and Astros, allowing only four earned runs over 19 innings in his previous three starts. Ray has one start against Oakland this year, having been saddled with a loss despite striking out ten batters over six innings back on May 25.
Frankie Montas (3-7, 3.53 ERA) will be on the mound for the Athletics, whose performance this season has been better than his record would indicate. Montas is 1-6 in his last 11 starts, though his offense has not supported him, scoring more than three runs twice in those 11 starts.
The A’s are 6-23 since May 21, with two wins coming against Seattle in late May.
